Making progress!

I just wanted to write a short update for the visitors to my website (and I've asked my mom to post it during the day because I'll be at school)... the fundraiser is really coming along GREAT! We've been out gathering donations from local businesses and we've got some super prizes already. My mom is going to help me to make a special area on the website to properly thank my sponsors and to put links to their websites (if they have them). It's really important to me that everyone knows how much I appreciate their help.

The best news is that we are going to be able to offer some of the big gift baskets that we planned!! The "Holiday Dinner" basket is a go - it will include a $25 gift card so the winner can buy their turkey (or other main item of their choice)! The "New Year's Eve Party" basket is going to be amazing! It will have balloons, noisemakers and other decorations, plates, napkins and other supplies, and a gift card for $50 worth of food! We also have gift certificates for restaurants, hair salons, video rentals, bowling and much, much more. My whole family has been working REALLY hard to put this together so I hope that it will be a success.

If everything works out right, the baskets will be made by the coming weekend so that raffle tickets will go on sale starting next week. My sister is going to help me with the ticket sales at school. We just need to have enough time to sell them before school closes for the holidays!

More news will be posted soon!! Please keep visiting... your support really means a lot to me!

The verdict!

Hi everybody,

I was called down to the school office at the end of the week -- but I didn't do anything wrong :) I was told that I have approval to hold my next fundraiser! A big thank you to my Principal! The only condition left is that I have to find a "teacher advocate" to work with me. At my school, any club or event must have a staff member involved with it. So, I know which teacher I'm going to ask... I just need to get enough time with her to do that. Once it's set up, I can start work.

My plan right now is to hold a raffle. With my family's help, I'm going to be asking businesses for donations and sponsorships. We are going to make gift baskets to raffle off to students and staff. The baskets will (hopefully!) have nice themes like A Holiday Dinner, A New Year's Eve Party, A Gift for Mom (or Dad or other family member), and more. If I cannot accumulate enough items to make many baskets, then I hope we will raffle off gift cards or gift certificates and that type of thing. It really just depends on how much can be collected.

My mom and I thought that this would be a great holiday project because it will not only help me to raise more DorisDollars but it will also help people at my school to make nice holidays for their families. I mean, if a student could buy a raffle ticket, and win a basket that has a gift certificate for a turkey, plus stuffing mixes and canned cranberry sauce and more, it could mean they would save a lot of money for their family. Or, it could even help a student or staff member to save on their holiday gift shopping.

We are going to make sure that we have items that will appeal to everyone because I know that not everybody celebrates the same holidays and traditions that I do.

So, that is the next event that I'm planning! I'm excited about doing this and I really hope we have enough time to get it done. When I know more, I'll be back with news!

Love, Kelsey.
